If a child loses a baby (primary) tooth early from either infection or extraction, they may need a space maintainer to preserve the space for the developing permanent tooth. Space maintainers are cemented in and stay in the child’s mouth until the permanent tooth erupts (comes in). If your child requires a space maintainer, Dr. Clark or Dr. Reddy will show you models and give you information about the specific one needed for your child.
